In an interesting stat, Australia captain Pat Cummins has dismissed India captain Rohit Sharma six times in Test cricket when both of them were captains of their respective teams. This is the most number of times a Test team skipper has dominated his counterpart in the history of the format.

Team India stands on the verge of losing the Boxing Day Test and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. On Day 5, the Aussies set up a 340-run chase for the men in blue. While Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal had a decent start, the skipper threw it away with a false flick.

Rohit, who was beginning to look settled at the crease, fell victim to a fullish delivery from Cummins that angled in and straightened just enough to deceive him. Attempting a flick, the batter ended up with a leading edge, sending the ball hurtling towards the gully region. Mitchell Marsh, stationed closer at the gully, displayed exceptional reflexes to latch on to a juggling catch.

Pat Cummins has now dismissed Rohit Sharma six times as captain of Test cricket. This is the most dismissals a captain has had in the format’s history against an opposition captain.

Previously, Richie Benaud held the record by dismissing Ted Dexter five times. Imran Khan also had a similar record against Sunil Gavaskar, dismissing the former captain four times in red ball format.

That being said, following Rohit’s dismissal, the top order collapsed against the run of play. KL Rahul was sent back for a duck in the same over by Cummins before Virat Kohli nicked an outside off-stump delivery to bring India down to 33/3 by lunch break.
