Rohit Sharma lasted 40 balls on Monday when India came to chase a record target of 340 against Australia in the Boxing Day Test match at the MCG. However, he could only muster 9 runs before Pat Cummins made India captain his bunny once again. Nevertheless, it would not have been possible had Mitchell Marsh took an excellent reflex catch at gully.

After showing patience for long, Rohit finally tried to break the shackles to attack Cummins. It was a ball which could have been punished, but the shot selection was wrong. Rohit tried to flick it, only to get a huge outside edge.

Even though Marsh did not see the ball coming, he kept himself ready to grab it on his second attempt. Steve Smith nearly reached Marsh if in case Australia all-rounder had dropped, but Smith was not required at all.

Cummins, on the other hand, was absolutely pumped up after getting the wicket of the 37-year-old, who is having a torrid series since coming to Australia during the Perth Test.

At the time of writing this, India have also lost KL Rahul, that too for a duck. They have slipped to 25/2 in quick time, and Cummins did the damage on both occasions. Now, the onus will be on Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal's shoulders to steady the ship before going for the kill, with Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy still to come.
