Day 5 of the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test match started off with a bang as Jasprit Bumrah got hold of the tail-ender Nathan Lyon early in the day. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened for India and were looking rock solid early in their innings.

However, Jaiswal and Rohit both had moments of trouble when they faced Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc's raw pace strength. Jaiswal wobbled with the bat quite a few times and while he was facing Mitchell Starc a play-and-miss was appealed by Marnus Labuschagne.

Though Jaiswal was beaten, the margin by which the ball swayed by the bat was too obvious to notice. However, Marnus Labuschagne got a bit carried away with his enthusiastic shout and Indian fans, clearly rooting for a win, didn’t hold back when it came to responding to Labuschagne’s appeal.

Fan Lampoons Labuschagne At MCG

When the camera panned toward a fan from the crowd, his placard read "Marnus, free eye, and ear check @Specsavers". It was a clever jab at Marnus for his over-the-top appeal, while also giving a nod to the spectacle brand he promoted on the placard.

Meanwhile, X (formerly Twitter) wasn’t any kinder to Marnus either; one tweet jokingly noted, "Pretty surprised Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne didn't appeal for that Yashasvi Jaiswal straight drive. Should have taken DRS.

India Gets Wobbly Early In Session 1

As the high-stakes clash at the MCG continues, Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Pat Cummins with a thick outside edge. Sharma who was showing great intent on the crease was gone for 9 off 40. While Yashasvi Jaiswal continued with KL Rahul, the latter also didn't survive long and was gone for a duck in the 17th over, leaving India reeling at 25-2. Jaiswal now stands with Virat Kohli as India looks to chase down the mammoth total by the end of the day.
