In a significant development, Australia have confirmed their playing XI for the first Test of the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan. The iconic clash starts on December 14, Thursday, at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Veteran batter David Warner is all set to open the batting alongside Usman Khawaja, while the dependable duo of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will bat at number 3 and 4, respectively.

Swashbuckling batter Travis Head, who recently played a match-winning knock in the World Cup final against India, is slotted at number 5 and will look to capitalise on the soft Kookaburra ball.

Mitchell Marsh has been preferred ahead of Cameron Green for the seam bowling all-rounder's role, with Alex Carey set to don the keeping gloves.

Besides leading the pack, skipper Pat Cummins will bat at number eight, followed by three first-choice bowling options- Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. Thus, fast bowlers Lance Morris and Scott Boland will warm the bench alongside Green.
