Injured Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is at the Centre of Excellence (formerly known as the National Cricket Academy) in a bid to attain full recovery from the back injury he sustained in Australia earlier this year. However, Nitin Patel, the current Sports Science Head at the center will be leaving his position, thus possibly putting Bumrah without the required assistance.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now hunting for Patel’s replacement as Bumrah races against time to attain recovery for the IPL 2025 season.
BCCI hunting for new Sports Science Head
Amidst Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and presence at the Centre of Excellence, the BCCI is hunting for the replacement of outbound Sports Science head Nitin Patel. Patel, who was also the physio of the Indian cricket team from 2007 to 2015. He will reportedly be leaving the Centre of Excellence after March 31.
With Nitin’s impending departure, the BCCI needs to ensure that the Centre of Excellence has someone capable for the job to manage the injury and recovery of the premier Indian fast bowler amidst the IPL 2025 season and India’s hectic international schedule.
It is worth noting that Jasprit Bumrah suffered back pain during the final Test of India’s five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia earlier this year. Since his injury, the cricketer has not played a single competitive match, even missing the entirety of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in the UAE.
Earlier reports indicated that Bumrah might join the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL 2025 after their first three matches. The fast bowler remains one of India’s primary assets ahead of the five-match Test series in England in June.
