Mumbai Indians have assembled a strong squad for the IPL 2025 season, but if there is one area of concern for the franchise, it has to be the injury of their star man, Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and was ruled out of the Champions Trophy.
How many matches will Bumrah miss?
His participation in the upcoming IPL 2025 was in jeopardy, but now, as per ESPNCricinfo, it has been learnt that the pacer will miss the opening few matches for the franchise and will return in early April. MI will play three matches in the month of March, and Bumrah is likely to miss those games.
The MI pacer is currently at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE), and an exact timeline on his comeback will be decided once he gets the medical clearance from BCCI's medical team.
MI's first three matches in IPL 2025
The 5-time champions will commence their season with a riveting battle against Chennai Super Kings away from home on March 23. Following which, they will play against Gujarat Titans, also away from home on March 29.
The team will play against Lucknow Super Giants on April 4 and most likely, Bumrah will make his comeback in the home match against RCB on April 7.
How Bumrah suffered the injury?
The leader of the pace attack suffered the injury during the second day of the fifth Test in Sydney. As a result, he was also ruled out of the Champions Trophy tournament, which India won recently.
This is Bumrah's second serious back injury after the one he suffered in early 2022. He is MI's best bowler and the team will miss his services against quality teams.
