Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has seemingly joined the Delhi Capitals franchise for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The cricketer was reportedly roped in by the Capitals management as a replacement for England’s firebrand batter Harry Brook.

On Wednesday, June 19, i.e., just a couple of days prior to the launch of IPL 2025, Shanaka was spotted training at a gym alongside Delhi Capitals teammates T Natarajan and Dushmantha Chameera. Natarajan shared a moment of their union as they posed together for a picture for fans of the franchise.

Dasun Shanaka Joins Delhi Capitals

Dasun Shanaka was reportedly signed in by the Delhi Capitals franchise for IPL 2025 after Harry Brook pulled himself out of the tournament. On Wednesday, June 19, Shanaka was spotted at a DC gym alongside national teammate Dushmantha Chameera and Indian fast bowler T Natarajan, considering the two speedsters will also be making their respective Capitals debut this season.

While Chameera was acquired for his base price of Rs. 75 lakhs, Natarajan raked in Rs. 10.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.

Dasun Shanaka profile and stats

It is safe to assume that Dasun Shanaka was roped in by the Delhi Capitals management for IPL 2025 season owing to his prolific run for the Dubai Capitals in their title-winning run at ILT20 2025 in the UAE earlier this year.

A veteran of 243 T20 matches, including 102 internationals, the 33-year-old Sri Lankan cricketer has tallied nearly 4,500 runs in the format at an astonishing strike rate of 142.45. He has belted three centuries and 16 fifties in the process. Moreover, Shanaka has also taken 91 wickets in his career.

In IPL, he previously played three matches for the Gujarat Titans franchise, all back in 2023.
