Devdutt Padikkal is no longer just knocking on the door of India’s ODI team. He is pushing it down with force, and fans are noticing it.
The Karnataka left-hander is enjoying a remarkable run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, and his performances are once again raising a serious question of how long a batter this consistent can be ignored by selectors.
Fans rally behind Devdutt Padikkal after remarkable consistency
Devdutt Padikkal has been in stunning form this VHT. In four matches so far, he has already scored three centuries.
He began the tournament with a magnificent 147 against Jharkhand, guiding Karnataka through a pressure chase and setting the tone for the competition.
He followed it up with a fluent 124 against Kerala. After a rare low score against Tamil Nadu, Padikkal bounced back strongly with a composed 113 against Puducherry.
What makes Padikkal’s case even stronger is that this is not a one-off purple patch. His List A record is truly exceptional. In 36 matches, the 25-year-old has scored 2364 runs at an astonishing average of 81.51.
He has crossed the fifty-run mark in 24 innings, with 12 centuries and 12 half-centuries. These numbers place him among the most consistent domestic batters in the country.
Hence, fans want Devdutt Padikkal in India’s ODI squad. A lot of supporters filled social media with messages supporting Padikkal, saying he deserves a shot at the 2027 ODI World Cup and that he is better than captain Shubman Gill.
