England cricket is going through a tough phase. The Ben Stokes-led side have lost the Ashes 3-0 after defeats in the first three games. The fans and pundits are after head coach Brendon McCullum and demand his resignation from the job.

McCullum made a great entry to the coaching set-up and revolutioned England cricket with his ‘Bazball’ approach. However, the effect has faded over time, and in the latest events, former cricketer Monty Panesar has joined the bandwagon to voice his support for McCullum’s ouster.

Monty Panesar backs Ravi Shastri as next India coach

Panesar remarked that it is time for McCullum to step aside and pushed for Ravi Shastri’s inclusion as England head coach.

"You have to think, who exactly knows how to beat Australia? How will you take advantage of Australia's weakness, mentally, physically, and tactically. I think Ravi Shastri should become England's next head coach," Panesar said speaking to journalist Ravi Bisht.

Ravi Shastri’s India heroics

Ravi Shastri’s coaching career rose to fame after his stint with the Indian team. Shastri-Kohli duo took over the world and helped the side register wins away from the country, an aspect of Indian cricket missing from a long time. Under Shastri’s tenure, India won the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under and that too with a second string-side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.

Ravi Shastri (as head coach since July 2017):

  • Tests: 43 matches, 25 wins
  • ODIs: 76 matches, 51 wins
  • T20Is: 65 matches, 42 wins

Out of all formats, Shastri helped India perform the best in Test cricket, a format that England is struggling in heavily. India failed to end their trophy drought under Ravi Shastri era but he took India to WTC final in 2021.
