India’s middle-order stalwart KL Rahul was ruled out of the second Test after he complained of right quadriceps pain earlier this month. According to reports, the seasoned campaigner has also been excluded from India’s squad for the third Test against England, scheduled to commence on February 15 at Rajkot.

The selectors are likely to monitor his recovery progress going forward before making a call on his possible return for the final two Tests of the five-match series.

KL Rahul to need additional week for recovery

KL Rahul might well require an additional week before attaining full recovery from his quadriceps pain.

Recent reports indicate that the BCCI selectors and the support staff will be closely observing his recovery progress before making any calls on his availability for the fourth Test of the series.

Karnataka batting star Devdutt Padikkal has been reportedly announced as Rahul’s replacement for the third Test. Domestic run-machine Sarfaraz Khan might also receive his maiden Test cap in place of the senior Indian cricketer.

KL Rahul took the field for India at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium against England in late January. In the first innings of the series-opening contest, the elegant right-handed batsman punched out a sizzling 86. Rahul, however, failed to take India home in a tense run-chase on Day 4.

Team India, under Rohit Sharma, will now face the Englishmen in the third Test of their five-match series at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The much-awaited contest will be staged between February 15 and February 19.
