On Tuesday, July 9, BCCI announced former India opener and two-time World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir as the new India head coach succeeding Rahul Dravid.

As soon as Gambhir was named Dravid's successor, speculations started over his support staff. Several media reports stated that Gautam wants Abhishek Nayar as his assistant coach.

Notably, Gambhir and Nayar worked together for KKR this year, and their combination helped Knight Riders win their third IPL trophy, ending a 10-year drought.

In the latest events, there are reports that BCCI have shortlisted Indian legend Zaheer Khan and IPL great Lakshmipathy Balaji for the post of India's bowling coach.

ANI Correspondent Vipul Kashyap was the first to break out this information and posted it on his Twitter account.

"The names of Zaheer Khan and L Balaji are on the bucket list of BCCI for bowling coach."

Zaheer holds experience in coaching as he has previously served as India's bowling consultant in 2017. Also, Khan has been Mumbai Indians' bowling mentor.

Talking about Balaji, he has previously served as KKR & CSK's bowling coach in the past.

There were reports that Gambhir had asked BCCI for Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach, but the board were also mulling at other options. Other than them, T Dilip, who was India's fielding coach under Dravid's regime, is likely to be retained by Gambhir.
