With the Asia Cup 2025 just weeks away, the tournament’s future is still unclear. A key meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, but there’s a big problem, India is not planning to attend. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with a few other cricket boards, is threatening to boycott the meeting.

India Refuses to Attend Meeting in Dhaka

Many sources say that the BCCI has officially informed the ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi that India will not take part in the meeting if it’s held in Dhaka. This decision is based on the current tense political relationship between India and Bangladesh.

India is not alone. Sri Lanka, Oman, and Afghanistan have also reportedly refused to attend the meeting in Dhaka. These boards have similar concerns about holding the meeting in Bangladesh. Despite the pushback, ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is firm on not changing the venue.

A top source told India Today that BCCI clearly requested a different venue, but the ACC has not responded. If key members like India don’t show up, any decisions made during the meeting might not be valid, as per ACC rules.

“The BCCI has clearly communicated its stance to both the ACC and Chairman Naqvi. They've also personally requested a change in venue, but there has been no response so far,” the source told.

The Asia Cup 2025, which is supposed to take place in September, could be delayed or cancelled if the issue isn’t resolved. Sources say Naqvi’s push to keep the meeting in Dhaka is being seen as an attempt to pressure India on tournament matters.

No Official Update from ACC

There are only five days left before the meeting, and the ACC hasn’t announced any changes. With no solution in sight, the Asia Cup 2025’s future remains in doubt.

India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series in over a decade. Their last full series was in 2012-13, and India last toured Pakistan in 2005-06. Due to security concerns, India refused to play in Pakistan for recent events like the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Instead, India played matches at neutral venues, while Pakistan did come to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Now, both countries have agreed to only play each other at neutral locations in future tournaments.
