Afghanistan and Bangladesh are expected to play a three-match T20 cricket series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this October. The exact dates haven’t been confirmed yet, but sources say it will likely take place after the Asia Cup (in September) and before Bangladesh’s tour to the West Indies in late October.

Afghanistan And Bangladesh Likely To Clash In October

This T20I series would be part of a tour that was originally supposed to happen in July 2024. That full tour was supposed to include two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and three T20Is. However, it got shortened to only white-ball (ODI and T20I) matches. Later, the games were moved to Greater Noida, India, but were postponed due to bad weather and a busy schedule for Bangladesh.

Shahriar Nafees, a top official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), told Cricbuzz that they are in talks with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to play the rescheduled ODIs and T20Is. He also said the Test matches would be held later when both teams have time.

"We are in discussion with ACB regarding the white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is that were rescheduled earlier in 2024. We will be playing the remaining two Test matches at some other time that suits both the boards," BCB cricket operation in-charge confirmed.

Even though the location is still not 100% decided, the series will likely be played in the UAE in October 2025, if all goes well.

"Though the venue is yet to be finalized the series is likely to be played in coming October (2025) if everything goes as per plan," he said. "Earlier we also played three ODIs against Afghanistan but that was not part of the tour that was rescheduled in 2024," he added.

The upcoming T20I series will be the first time the two teams face off in this format since Afghanistan’s historic win over Bangladesh in the 2024 T20 World Cup. That win helped Afghanistan reach the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time.

Talks are still going on about when to play the two postponed Test matches, which might now happen in 2026.

If this T20I series is confirmed, it will be good practice for both teams before the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.

For Afghanistan, this series fills a gap in their busy schedule. After the Asia Cup, they will tour Zimbabwe and later play more T20Is against the West Indies and New Zealand. Bangladesh are also using this time to test their squad and prepare for the big tournament.
