India cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, just days before he was supposed to make his debut. The club confirmed that he won’t be joining them due to personal reasons. He was expected to play his first match on July 22 against Surrey, but now won’t be traveling to England at all.

Yorkshire Coach Disappointed As Ruturaj Gaikwad Pulls Out of Season Plans

Yorkshire’s head coach, Anthony McGrath, expressed disappointment after learning that Gaikwad won't be joining them.

“Unfortunately Gaikwad’s not coming now for personal reasons,” said McGrath. “We’re not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that’s disappointing."

The exact reason behind his withdrawal has not been revealed, but McGrath said they hope everything is okay with the Indian batter.

Gaikwad was supposed to play five First-Class matches and some List A games for Yorkshire. However, now that he has pulled out, he won't be part of any matches this season.

The Mumbai batter hasn’t played any official match since April 8, when he led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 but was ruled out due to an elbow injury.

Although Ruturaj traveled to England with the India A team, he didn’t play in any of the unofficial Test matches against England Lions. He only participated in an intra-squad match before the series began.

So far, Gaikwad has played 38 First-Class matches, scoring 2,632 runs with an average of 41.77, including seven centuries. While those are solid numbers, they haven’t yet been enough to earn him a spot in India’s Test team.

In white-ball cricket, he also seems to be a bit behind in the selection race. His 2025 IPL season ended early due to injury, and he only scored 122 runs in 5 games, averaging 24.40.

In India’s 2024-25 domestic season, Gaikwad scored 571 runs in 12 innings, including one century. However, his form dipped during the India A tour of Australia, where he managed only 20 runs in four matches.
