In a thrilling encounter this past Friday at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Mohammad Amir showcased his exceptional bowling skills during the first eliminator of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, where Quetta Gladiators faced off against Islamabad United.

Despite Quetta Gladiators' loss, Amir's performance was a silver lining, as he managed to trouble the batters with his precise length, conceding only two runs in his first over and finishing with an impressive 2/20 in his four overs. Islamabad United emerged victorious by 39 runs, securing their spot by restricting Quetta Gladiators to 135 in response to their 174/9.

Former Pakistani fast bowler and ICC Hall Of Famer, Waqar Younis highlighted the lessons Shaheen Shah Afridi could learn from Amir's approach. With Afridi's recent struggles on the field, especially during a disappointing season for Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2024, where the team managed only one win out of ten matches.

"I hope Shaheen Afridi is watching that because I think he needs to do that more often. Because early on if it [the ball] isn’t swinging, just hit this length," Waqar advised, emphasising the importance of mastering length when swing bowling is not effective.

This isn't the first time Waqar has offered guidance to Afridi; he previously suggested that Afridi could benefit from emulating India's Jasprit Bumrah during the World Cup 2023.

Afridi, a 23-year-old left-arm pace bowler, is at a pivotal point in his career, especially following reports of his potential removal as Pakistan's T20I captain after the PSL's Disastrous outcome.
