Soon after announcing his international retirement, the former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim joined the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Stars for the upcoming 2023-24 edition.

Wasim, 34, will, however, be available to play in the competition post-Christmas. Wasim is the second third player after pacer Haris Rauf and spinner Usama Mir to join the Stars' squad this season.

Other internationals in the lineup include England's Liam Dawson, who will be available for the first three matches.

Wasim has played for local rivals the Melbourne Renegades in the 2020-21 edition, scoring 56 runs and claiming 10 wickets in as many appearances. In a statement, Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch expressed delight over Wasim joining the club.

Here's what Blair Crouch said about Imad Wasim

"With Liam available for the first three matches, we identified Imad as a player who could come in and perform a role for us with his left arm spin and lengthen our batting lineup. I'm really looking forward to seeing lots of Pakistan fans in the crowd at the MCG with Imad joining his former national teammates, Usama Mir and Haris Rauf."

The bowling all-rounder played 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is for Pakistan and has featured in over 318 T20 matches, scoring 3,531 runs, and picking 290 wickets, while turning up for franchises like Karachi Kings, Jamaica Tallawahs, Barbados Tridents, Barisal Bulls, and Nottinghamshire.

On Wednesday, Wasim announced his move from the Kings to Islamabad United for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition.
