Bangladesh pacer, Ebadot Hossain is set to undergo a crucial knee surgery at Cromwell Hospital, London on Wednesday. The star bowler is racing against time to be fit for the upcoming World Cup 2023 this October-November in India.

Ebadot Hossain's World Cup hopes hang by thread after knee surgery news

The surgery follows a left ACL injury which he sustained during the third ODI against Afghanistan last month, leading to his absence from the Asia Cup.

Originally, the injury did not seem severe which allowed Hossain to be named in Bangladesh's Asia Cup squad. However, it later became evident that the injury required surgical intervention, prompting the selectors to replace him with Tanzim Hasan.

Despite the typical recovery period of around six weeks post-surgery for athletes, the Bangladesh Cricket Board's senior physician, Dr Debashis Chowdhury, refrained from specifying a definitive return date.

"Ebadot consulted a knee specialist in London this week. Upon extensive review of his condition, it was decided that Ebadot would undergo a left ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair. At this stage, we are not in a position to provide further details including the rehab process and expected timeframe for recovery. However, we are fully committed to helping and supporting the player in every way possible in his journey towards returning to cricket,” said Chowdhury in a press statement.

Hossain, who made his ODI debut in August 2022, rapidly rose as one of the mainstays in the Bangladesh white-ball team.

With a remarkable 22 wickets at an average of 22.90, he stands as the top wicket-taker for Bangladesh in ODIs since his debut. The team's hopes now hinge on his speedy recovery ahead of World Cup 2023.
