The opening game of Asia Cup 2023 between Pakistan and Nepal turned out to be a one-sided affair as Pakistan hammered Nepal by 238 runs at Multan Cricket Stadium. The hosts lost Mohammad Rizwan to a poor run-out dismissal, which made skipper Babar Azam furious. Rizwan threw away his wicket due to a lackluster and casual attempt to complete his run, which frustrated Azam, who threw his cap in anger.

Batting first, Pakistan suffered early setbacks as openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Azam dismissed cheaply. But Babar and Rizwan stabilized the ship with a partnership of 86 runs for the third wicket. The partnership broke when Rizwan was dismissed in the 24th over. After playing a shot towards the covers, the batter attempted a single but his running between the wickets was very casual.

Unfortunately, Rizwan was dismissed when he played a shot towards the covers and attempted to take a single. However, he wasn't able to complete the single because he did not ground his bat while approaching the crease and Dipendra Singh Airee's direct throw hit the stumps. Surprised by Rizwan's bizarre dismissal, Azam removed his cap and threw it on the ground.

Pakistan nevertheless managed to post a competitive total of 342 runs on the board. Rizwan scored 44 off 50, while Azam scored a brilliant 151 off 131. Down the order, Iftikhar Ahmed scored an unbeaten 109.

Pakistan's next assignment will be against archrivals India on September 2 in Kandy.
