The grand opening of Asia Cup 2023 took place on Wednesday at the Multan Cricket Stadium which witnessed mesmerizing performances from singers Aima Baig of Pakistan and Trishala Gurung of Nepal.

Gurung dazzles with her performance

While Baig is no stranger to the Pakistani cricketing crowd, having sung anthems for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the past, Gurung was a fresh voice to the local fans.

Her soulful voice captured the audience's attention and she instantly became a social media sensation.

Talking about the inaugural match, Pakistan and Nepal lit up the stadium immediately following the ceremony. After winning the toss, Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam chose to bat first due to the drier conditions of the Multan pitch. However, the event faced a tepid reception in terms of in-stadium attendance.

Despite losing 4 wickets, out of which 2 were run-outs, Babar Azam has stood like a brick wall, and has notched up his 29th ODI fifty, and is closing in on yet another hundred.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2023 scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 17 is co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

This decision was notably influenced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s reservation against sending their team to Pakistan, citing security issues. Thus, while four matches will be hosted by Pakistan, nine games, including the final will be played on Sri Lankan soil.
