A professional Pakistan unit outclassed Nepal in all aspects of the game to register a 238-run win in Multan. In doing so, the ‘Men in Green’ also registered their opening Group A points in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

During the finishing stages of the game, Fakhar Zaman snared a sensational catch mid-air to give teammate Shadab Khan one of his four wickets of the evening.

Pakistan skittled Nepal out for a mere 104 in less than 24 overs to script a huge 238-run win for themselves in their opening Asia Cup 2023 match.

Despite Babar Azam’s scintillating century and Shaheen Afridi’s sublime new-ball gambit, one of the moments of the match turned out to be a sensational grab from Fakhar Zaman towards the closing stages of the game.

The moment of brilliance occurred in the 22nd over of Nepal’s run-chase, when middle-order batter Gulsan Jha attempted a slog sweep against Shadab Khan. Jha merely managed to launch the ball up in the air towards deep midwicket, where a charged-up Fakhar Zaman made a dive forward to complete the catch mid-air.

The wicket also turned out to be Shadab’s first of the evening, and he eventually polished off the rest of the tail to finish with 4-27 from 6.4 overs.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan piled up 342-6 off the back of centuries from captain Babar Azam and number six Iftikhar Ahmed. Mohammad Rizwan also scored a handy 44 while none of the other batters managed to outscore Fakhar Zaman’s 14 at the top of the order.

The ‘Men in Green’ will now go up against arch-rivals India on September 2 to conclude their Group A run of the competition. The match is scheduled to be played out at Kandy’s Pallekele Stadium.
