Over the past 48 hours, the tensions between the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cricket Board have intensified after the players threatened a boycott of the Bangladesh Premier League alongside other forms of cricket until the BCB director Nazmul Islam issues a resignation following his stance regarding the national team's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Backing their words with action, the Chattogram Royals vs Noakhali match on Thursday morning was also boycotted by the players. At the same time, the second game between Rajshahi Warriors and Sylhet Titans also remains under uncertainty. While the board has promised the director's resignation, the CWAB has given them a final ultimatum and asked for a written confirmation regarding the matter.

Bangladesh players protest: CWAB asks for written promises

Having boycotted the first match of January 15, Mohammad Mithun, who is the president of the players' welfare association, has confirmed that BCB have promised Nazmul Islam's resignation in 48 hours; however, the lack of trust between the parties meant a formal and written assurance was asked by the welfare board.

"The BCB has said it'll take around 48 hours for the official to resign. Even if we play the second game today, what if he doesn't resign after 48 hours? We will again stop BPL. If BCB gives us in writing that he will resign within 48 hours, then we will play today. If he doesn't resign in 48 hours, then BCB will have to compensate the players. The BCB is yet to respond to our demands," said Mithun, as quoted by @CricSubhayan.

As per the players, they will only participate in any cricket under BCB when the resignation is finalised, to lead to a peaceful resolution of T20 World Cup matters with ICC and BCCI.

What did Nazmul Islam say about Bangladesh's T20 World Cup participation?

Following Mustafizur Rahman's removal from the Kolkata Knight Riders' squad for the upcoming IPL season, Islam threatened the ICC and BCCI to shift their matches to Sri Lanka, who are co-hosting the event, otherwise the BCB and the Bangladesh government will not send their team for the competition.

Upon Tamim Iqbal's request to find diplomatic and peaceful solutions, the director did not seem happy and labelled the former captain and legendary batter as an Indian agent.

The players' association felt hard done by this stance from Islam, considering the financial hit they will face by not playing the marquee T20 competition, leading to this protest.

As things stand, Bangladesh will begin their tournament against the West Indies on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by two more games against Italy and England at the same venue before they head to Mumbai for the final Group C game in their campaign. All parties are in discussions to find the best possible solutions, while keeping the logistics and finances in mind.
