After two years, the T20 World Cup 2026 is making its return to the cricketing arena, but even before it begins, the turmoil between India and Bangladesh is adding more drama to the build-up. With the ICC rejecting BCB’s request to shift venues, the situation became even more fierce.

As the tension continues to brew, veteran Bangladeshi batter Tamim Iqbal shared his opinion on BCB’s T20 World Cup move. In a sharp response, BCB board member M. Najmul Islam publicly slammed Tamim, turning the debate into a full-blown off-field showdown.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 inching closer, the excitement is touching the sky, but the geopolitical tension between India and Bangladesh is grabbing attention. What started as an international issue slowly impacted the cricketing arena as Bangladesh denied their travel to India for the marquee tournament.

They even reached out to the ICC to shift their World Cup venues, but the highest cricket body denied the request. Amid the fallout, former Bangladesh star Tamim Iqbal openly questioned the BCB’s move to pull out of the global showpiece, igniting fresh debate.

As the comment divided the cricket world into two parts, M. Najmul Islam, a member of the BCB Board of Directors, didn’t hold back. On his social media handle, he took a sharp dig at the Bangladeshi veteran and labelled him as ‘Indian agent’.

“Eibar aaro ekjon porikkhito Bharatiya dalaal er aatyoprokash Banglar jonogon duchokh bhore dekhlo (This time, Bangladesh has witnessed the self-expression of a proven Indian agent),” he wrote.

The drama refuses to die as Bangladesh remains defiant

Every day, the ongoing India-Bangladesh saga is taking a new turn. After the geopolitical tension intervened into the 22 yards, Bangladesh’s chance of taking part in the T20 World Cup has become questionable. After Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL snub, the situation became even more tricky.

The Tigers are in turmoil over traveling to the neighboring country, citing security concerns. After ICC rejected BCB’s initial request to change the T20 World Cup venue, they reached out to the highest cricket body again. The drama escalated further as they reportedly threatened to pull out of the tournament if their demands were not met.

As the tournament kicks off on February 7, Bangladesh is set to play the second match against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens. As uncertainty continues to cloud the build-up, the cricketing world now waits anxiously to see how this off-field puzzle finally unfolds.
