Ayush Badoni was included in Team India squad for the home ODI series against New Zealand after all-rounder Washington Sundar sustained an injury in the series-opener earlier this week in Baroda. While the 26-year-old was not considered for the playing XI in the second ODI, the youngster might well receive his maiden international cap through the impending series-decider at the Holkar Stadium in Indore later this week.

On Thursday, January 15; Ayush Badoni finally graced Team India colors as he braces himself up for a possible international debut. However, a picture circulating on social media saw Badoni being trolled by fans after an untidy backdrop behind him quickly drew unwanted attention.

Ayush Badoni, BCCI called out for untidy background in his jersey photo

A picture of Ayush Badoni circulated on social media on Thursday, January 15 where the young Delhi cricketer can be seen wearing the Indian team jersey. However, the background behind him became the talking point, with fans quick to point out the dirty and untidy setting that took attention away from the jersey reveal.

Instead of admiring the talented Ayush Badoni in his Indian jersey, several Indian cricket fans responded by trolling the youngster as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the poorly chosen backdrop and lack of attention to presentation.

Let’s take a look at how netizens reacted to Ayush Badoni’s ‘untidy’ jersey reveal:

Why was Ayush Badoni picked as Washington Sundar’s replacement

Earlier this week, the BCCI selection committee and the Indian team management named 26-year-old Ayush Badoni for the remaining two ODI matches against New Zealand. The youngster was picked in the national side as a replacement for all-rounder Washington Sundar, who suffered an injury setback and walked off the field owing to pain in his left lower rib area in the series-opening first ODI at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara.

A seasoned Delhi pro in domestic cricket, Ayush Badoni notched up some crucial runs for his side and picked up wickets in a canter in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 season. He also came up clutch with the ball for Delhi in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season.

In first-class cricket, Ayush Badoni averages a staggering 57.96 with the bat, having aggregated 1,681 runs in just 32 innings with four hundreds and seven fifties. In 27 List A games, the cricketer maintains an average of nearly 37 with the bat, and has picked up 18 wickets through his right-arm off-spin at an exceptional economy rate of just 4.54 runs an over.

In the IPL, Ayush Badoni has been a part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise since the 2022 edition of the tournament. He has scored 963 runs for them in 46 IPL innings at a blistering strike rate of 138.56. He was recently retained by the LSG franchise prior to the IPL 2026 auction late last year for the upcoming season in a couple of months’ time.
