The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) celebrated a historic moment on June 26, 2025, by marking 25 years since the country became a Test-playing nation. A special event was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, known as the home of cricket in Bangladesh.

On June 26, 2000, Bangladesh became only the 10th team in the world to receive Test status. They advanced into the red ball format to establish themselves as a full-time member nation with ICC.

Bangladesh Unveil Hall Of Fame On Test Status’ Silver Jubilee

To honour the occasion of Bangladesh’s Test status silver jubilee, BCB unveiled a brand-new honours board that lists the names of all cricketers who have represented Bangladesh in Test cricket.

From Akram Khan, Bangladesh’s first Test captain and Test cap number 1, to the most recent debutant, Tanzim Hasan Sakib (Test cap number 107), every player was remembered.

The Silver Jubilee event also saw a heartwarming reunion of Bangladesh’s first-ever Test team, also called the "Class of 2000." This team played the country’s maiden Test match against India in November 2000 in Dhaka. Coaches and support staff from that historic match were also invited to be part of the celebrations.

A special cabinet was also set up at the stadium to display trophies and awards that Bangladeshi cricketers have won over the years, reminding fans of the team's progress since that first match.

Aminul Islam Bulbul, who scored Bangladesh’s first-ever Test century and is now the BCB president, said that the event had two purposes, to celebrate 25 years of Test cricket and to remind everyone in the country that cricket is still alive and important.

"The first reason is to celebrate 25 years of Test cricket, while the other reason is to give a wake-up call as cricket seems to have been in hibernation mode in many places of the country," Islam told Cricbuzz.

The current Bangladesh men’s team is in Sri Lanka, playing a two-match Test series. After the Test series, they will play limited-overs matches on the same tour.
