However, with the advent of fake news all around, Gavaskar's popularity has also been often misused by the media houses. There have been numerous quotes attributed to him that have turned out to be fake, and now Sunil Gavaskar, on his official Instagram handle, has spoken up about this issue.
Sunil Gavaskar Shares His Problem With Media And Social Media Accounts
Sunil Gavaskar, in his video, opened up about his observations regarding fake news and quotes attributed to his name in the last few months. He requested people to verify and cross-check and not believe in everything they are reading, especially from some of the sports websites and accounts on social media. He also made it clear in the caption of the video that people should verify before believing in the quotes written by his name.
"Over the last few months, it's come to my notice that a lot of sports websites and individual accounts have been attributing comments and quotes to me which I have never made. I request everybody to verify, fact-check and not to believe everything that they read. Particularly coming from some of these individual accounts and sports websites. God bless you all," Gavaskar said in his video.
"Please verify before believing quotes attributed to me," Gavaskar wrote in the caption of his video.
The 75-year-old also complained against a website during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 when they published a completely fake article by his name. Many other cricketers have also slammed fake news in the last few years, and Gavaskar's latest request speaks a lot about the problems it creates for cricketers.
