In a remarkable achievement, Taijul Islam attained new heights with a clinical five-wicket haul in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Besides rattling the Lankans with a superb spell, the left-arm spinner registered the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh bowler at the iconic venue. 

Taijul Records Best Test Figures For Bangladesh At SSC

Bangladesh's experienced spinner Taijul Islam played a pivotal role in bowling out the Sri Lankan side, scalping five wickets for 131 runs in the first innings. 

Taijul, who earlied bagged the crucial wicket of Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Udara, went on to add four more scalps to his tally, getting rid of Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Tharindu Rathnayake and Asitha Fernando. 

He brought up his seventeenth Test fifer and became the first-ever Bangladesh bowler to record a five-wicket haul at Sinhalese Sports Club. Thus, the experienced campaigner set the record for the best Test figures for his country at the venue.

Thus, as mentioned above, Taijul Islam currently holds the first place on the list of Bangladesh cricketers with the best Test bowling figures at Sinhalese Sports Club. He is being followed by Manjural Islam, while Nayeem Hasan claims the third position. 

Sri Lanka Ensure Huge Lead Despite Taijul's Blitz

Despite Taijul's heroic bowling effort, Sri Lanka managed to breach the 450-run mark and take a massive first-innings lead over Bangladesh in the Test match. While Nissanka starred with a sublime century, Chandimal and Kusal Mendis notched up valuable fifties. Among others, Kamindu Mendis struck 33 glorious runs, with Lahiru Udara playing a patient knock of 40 runs. 

In response to Sri Lanka's massive first innings total, Bangladesh have got a steady start. As of writing, the visitors were 31 for none with Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque batting on 12* and 19*, respectively.
