In a heartwarming moment during a recent Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 net session, Ricky Ponting, the former Australian cricket legend, was seen turning water boy for his son, Fletcher William Ponting. The kid was batting in the nets for Washington Freedom. 

Ponting is the head coach of Washington Freedom, and under his leadership, the team is dominating in the MLC 2025 season, placing second on the points table with 10 points in 6 games.

During a net session of Washington Freedom, Fletcher William Ponting, Ponting’s son, walked out with his kit bag and geared up for bat. Glenn Maxwell did throw downs as the kid impressed everyone with his timing and technique.

What made the scene even more special was Ricky Ponting standing nearby, watching closely and giving his son gentle batting tips. He also turned water boy for Fletcher, and the father-son interaction left fans smiling and hopeful that Fletcher might follow in his father’s footsteps.

Meanwhile, Washington Freedom continued its great form in MLC 2025. They recently beat the Los Angeles Knight Riders in a thrilling last-ball match in Dallas. With this five-wicket win, Freedom moved up to second place on the points table, passing Texas Super Kings and coming closer to securing a spot in the playoffs.

Ricky Ponting is having a great year as head coach in 2025. He led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 season final, where they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a small margin of 6 runs. Now with Freedom, Ponting will hope to cross the finish line and win the MLC title.
