The prestigious ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month awards introduced by ICC for rewarding players for their performances in international games for a particular month have created a lot of buzz in recent times. Now, ICC have announced the nominees for the August month as well where some big names, Babar Azam, Shadab Khan and Nicholas Pooran are in contention to win the award.

For Women's Player of the Month award, Ainna Hamizah Hashim from Malaysia, Arlene Kelly from Ireland and Iris Zwilling from Netherlands are nominated. It would be interesting to see who grabs the ultimate prize as there have been pretty good impactful knocks from all the players who have been nominated.

What have Babar Azam, Shadab Khan and Nicholas Pooran done in the month of August?

Babar Azam

Babar Azam is one of the leading batters in world cricket currently and is consistency and hunger for runs is second to none. In the month of August, he again showed that consistency with two fifties in three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, as Pakistan whitewashed their neighbours.

In the Asia Cup 2023, he started off with a bang as well and smashed 151 against Nepal, making him a strong contender to win Player of the Month award.

Shadab Khan

The Pakistan vice-captain has also delivered some impactful performances with his all-round skills. His belligerent cameo of 48 off 35 balls in the second ODI against Afghans took Pakistan to a memorable win while he picked three wickets with the ball in the final ODI.

In the Asia Cup opening game against Nepal, he picked four wickets while giving away just 27 runs, completely bamboozling Nepal's batting line-up.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicky P, as he is fondly known showed his class and power against India in T20I series, taking Windies to a rare and much-needed series win over India. He scored 176 in five innings and smashed a match-winning 67 in the second T20I to overpower strong Indian unit. In the whole series, his strokeplay and ability to take the game on from the ball one proved to be a game-changer and he is surely a strong candidate to win the Player of the Month award.

Let's see who win this three-way battle as the decision from ICC is expected to come around soon.
