Babar Azam Climbs Up, Only Behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma On Elite List For T20Is

One of the most consistent 20-over run-getters in the past few years has been Pakistan's Babar Azam, who, during his 57-run knock against New Zealand in the first T20I at Auckland, achieved a phenomenal record.

Azam, who was already the fourth-highest T20I-run getter, went past New Zealand's Martin Guptill's tally of 3,531 runs and now handsomely sits in third spot behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who top the batting chart with 4,008 and 3,853 runs, in first and second positions.

While Azam's 3,542 runs have come from 105 T20Is, Kohli and Sharma's 4,008 and 3,853 runs took them 114 and 149 matches, respectively.

Interestingly, Azam is also the second fastest to 3,500 T20I runs, taking 99 innings, and is only behind Kohli, who leads with 96.

Ireland's hard-hitting opener, Paul Stirling, rounds off a brilliant top-five list with 3,438 runs, which include one hundred and 23 fifties.

Azam, to his credit, is also the joint fourth-most (3) T20I centuries to his name from 105 internationals for Pakistan between 2016 and 2024.

Unfortunately, the former Pakistan captain's monumental knock could not help Pakistan win the Auckland T20I, where his side was chasing 227.

The 27-year-old changed his batting position, dropped down to No. 3 from the opening slot, and kept one-end blocked as wickets kept tumbling down before the stylish batter fell for 57.

Kohli and Sharma will have a chance to add to their tally of T20I runs, when India plays Afghanistan on Sunday in second T20I at Indore, after Azam takes the field against New Zealand in Hamilton on the same day.
