The Board Of Cricket Control India (BCCI), the country's cricket governing body recently unveiled the Men's and Women's squads that will represent the country in the 2023 Asian Games. The Men in Blue are set to be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian women's side. The forthcoming event of the Asian Cup will be held in Hangzhou, China, spanning from September 19 to October 8.

The matches will be played in the T20 format at the Pingfeng Cricket Field, situated at Zhejiang University of Technology. Notably, this ground stands as the largest cricket stadium in China, accommodating up to 12,000 spectators.

In the previous seven matches held at this venue, four were won by the team batting first, while three were won by the team chasing. The average score in the first innings has been 99, while for the second innings, it has been 78.

Out of the 45 countries participating in the Asian Games, approximately 20 nations are expected to compete in the cricket event. These countries include India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Oman, Myanmar, Vietnam, Bhutan, Qatar, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.

Cricket was featured in the Asian Games in 2010 (Guangzhou) and 2014 (Incheon). In the inaugural tournament, Bangladesh emerged as the winners, while Sri Lanka claimed victory in the most recent edition. Afghanistan secured the second position in both competitions.

This will be the second time that the Indian men's cricket team participates in a multi-sport event. They previously competed in a 50-over format at the 1998 Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur. However, those matches did not hold international status and were classified as List A games.
