Asian Games 2023 | CSK Fans Compare Ruturaj Gaikwad With MS Dhoni; Here's Why

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)'s opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the Indian T20I squad in the upcoming Asian Games in Chennai. The Men's cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 will take place in the T20 format in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China between September 28-October 08.

With the senior cricketers set to be involved in the preparations for the 50-over World Cup during the same time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has picked a squad full of IPL performers, with Gaikwad elevated to the captaincy post.

Ever since the news of Gaikwad captaining the Indian team broke out, CSK fans have gone on a rampage, comparing his accession to the captaincy position with the legendary MS Dhoni.

Back in 2007, Dhoni was appointed captain of the Indian T20I team for the inaugural World Cup after senior players backed out.

At the age of 26, Dhoni proceeded to script history as he led his young troops to a historic World Cup triumph.

While the stakes and the stage ain't exactly the same, CSK fans have already started drawing parallels, suggesting that Gaikwad can break India's drought of not winning a global trophy just as MSD did in 2007.
