Rinku Singh has been selected in the India squad [Twitter]
Indian cricketer Rinku Singh was thrilled after receiving his first national call-up for the Hangzhou Asian Games in China. Since the men's senior team will be participating in the World Cup later this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a secondary squad for the Asian Games.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain the team in the absence of senior players who will be focusing on preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.
Although Rinku was not selected for the ongoing West Indies tour, he took to Instagram to express his excitement about his maiden call-up. He shared a post featuring himself in both Indian and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) colors, accompanied by the text "Finally" in the background. The post was also shared by his IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rinku had an impressive season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 474 runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders despite the team's disappointing campaign.
The Indian men's senior team is gearing up to make its debut in the Hangzhou Asian Games, scheduled for later this year. Historically, India has not fielded a cricket team in the Asian Games, while other notable teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka have sent secondary squads to the competition.
