Steve Smith has blasted the English media after several British websites claimed that visiting Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey did not pay for his haircut in Leeds.

The Australian team is currently in Leeds to play the third Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series at the Headingley Cricket Ground.

Smith says Carey has not had a haircut since London arrival

A news broke out within the English media that Alex Carey did not pay a Leeds-based hairdresser despite getting a haircut from him ahead of the third Ashes 2023 Test match.

A barber named Adam Mahmood in Leeds had claimed that the Australian wicketkeeper had left his store on the pretext of paying later. The barber also added that Carey had no cash with him at the time, and he gave the cricketer the ultimatum of clearing his dues until the conclusion of the ongoing Test.

Former England captain Alastair Cook also quoted the news report during a recent podcast on the BBC Test Match Special.

Carey’s Australian teammate Steve Smith has categorically denied all claims made by the British media via a scornful response. Taking to threads, he claimed that his colleague has not even had a haircut ever since the team arrived in London ahead of the second Test of the series.

The batting veteran also slammed an England-based website, and mockingly asked them to get their “facts right” before publishing.

In the meantime, Australia and hosts England are in the midst of a see-saw Test match in Headingley.

After the visitors were shot out for 263 within the opening day, Pat Cummins and co. responded back to dust the Englishmen out for 237. Enjoying a handy first-innings lead, the Australians will look to extend their lead further in a bid to strengthen their grip over the contest.
