The buzz surrounding the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 has been immense, with fans and experts alike eagerly discussing their predictions for the cricketing extravaganza.

Sourav Ganguly named his semi-final picks for WC 2023

Adding to the excitement, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has now revealed his picks for the teams he believes will make it to the semifinals of the tournament.

In a recent interaction with RevSportz, Ganguly, who is celebrating his 51st birthday, earmarked India, Australia, and England as favourites for a place in the semi-finals of the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which is set to commence on October 5.

While he expressed confidence in these teams, Ganguly also underlined that one must not overlook New Zealand's potential to make it to the knockout stages. Moreover, the legendary cricketer conveyed his hopes for Pakistan to advance to the next round, setting the stage for an exciting face-off with India.

The former left-hander was particularly animated about the prospects of an India-Pakistan showdown in the semi-finals at Kolkata's legendary Eden Gardens, his hometown.

“It’s very hard to say. Australia, England, India. You can never underestimate New Zealand in these big matches. I will pick five, and include Pakistan also. Pakistan better qualify so that we will have the India-Pakistan semi-final at the Eden Gardens (laughs),” said Ganguly.

Discussing the constant pressure on the players and the coaching staff, Ganguly mentioned Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, who had scored five centuries in the previous ODI World Cup, arguing that pressure has always been a part of the game. He also referred to Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid, stating that managing pressure to deliver is part and parcel of his new role.

“Pressure will always be there. That will not go away, and I don’t think pressure is an issue. We don’t perform well sometimes, in crucial phases. I don’t feel it is mental pressure, but all about execution,” concluded Ganguly.

Ganguly further acknowledged that the players are mentally strong individuals but emphasized the importance of improving their execution in order to go all the way. He expressed hope that the team will be able to overcome this hurdle.
