Shyam Sharma, the Director of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), stated that Rishabh Pant is making satisfactory progress during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Sharma further mentioned that once the ongoing ODI World Cup concludes, it is likely that Pant will be declared fit.

“Rishabh Pant is doing well. He’s responding adequately (to the rehab). He can be fine (in terms of fitness) after the ODI World Cup happens (in October-November) and will come out (of the NCA) only after being declared fully fit, whenever it happens,” Sharma told IANS.

In the early hours of December 30, 2022, Rishabh Pant, aged 25, miraculously survived a car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway while traveling to his hometown of Roorkee. His Mercedes car collided with a divider and caught fire between Manglaur and Narsan in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district.

Initially, Pant was taken to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre and later transferred to Max Hospital in Dehradun. On January 4, he was airlifted to Mumbai for a surgical procedure on his right knee and further treatment for multiple injuries at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West.

Since April, Pant has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he has made progress by walking without crutches and climbing stairs without assistance. Shyam Sharma expressed his satisfaction with Pant's recovery, stating that it was uplifting to witness him ascending stairs and walking on different surfaces such as soil and grass.

“His ongoing rehabilitation at the NCA is happening very well. He’s doing a lot of exercise also. I was there at the NCA for half an hour or so. He’s being made to do all the exercises related to walking, climbing stairs and is also walking on the soil, or on grass,” said Sharma.

Pant, who entered international cricket in February 2017, was most recently active during India's 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh in December 2022. In the second Test, which concluded on December 25, he played a pivotal role by scoring a crucial 93 runs in India's first innings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, contributing to their victory.
