Another Setback For PBKS! Kagiso Rabada Ruled Out Of The Remainder Of IPL 2024

During the pre-match press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Punjab Kings' (PBKS) assistant coach Brad Haddin confirmed that Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2024, further depleting the squad.

Additionally, Liam Livingstone has departed India ahead of schedule to address a knee issue before the next month’s T20 World Cup 2024.

With PBKS already out of the playoffs race, they now only have pride to play for. However, their hopes of finishing the tournament on a positive note have been dealt a blow with the recent setbacks.

Both Rabada and Livingstone will miss the last two league games for PBKS this season, potentially opening up opportunities for players who haven't seen much game time.

Haddin hints at changes in the playing XI

Haddin acknowledged the need for changes in the Playing XI due to the absences of Rabada and Livingstone.

“Yeah, there will be (changes to the Playing XI). We know Rabada’s gone home injured, so we’ve got to find a replacement. Liam Livingstone has also been called back by the ECB. There’ll be a change there also. We’ll meet later tonight to finalise the 11 or 12 that we’ll go in with. Tomorrow’s game is about going out there and expressing oneself. We are out of the tournament, which is disappointing, but it’s still another opportunity for the younger guys and the team to develop,” Brad Haddin said ahead of the PBKS-RR game.

Throughout the season, PBKS struggled with inconsistency and failed to capitalize on home advantage.

Injuries to key players, including captain Shikhar Dhawan, further compounded their challenges, making it difficult to find an optimal combination.

Furthermore, PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran is set to depart after Wednesday’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to join the England squad for the T20I series against Pakistan and the subsequent T20 World Cup, further weakening PBKS for their last league game.
