The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended IPL 2025 for a week on May 9, citing security concerns amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions. This followed the abrupt halt of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. Delhi Capitals (DC) match in Dharamsala on May 8.
Players, staff, and crew from both teams were swiftly evacuated via a special Vande Bharat train arranged by Indian Railways, arriving safely in Delhi by Friday night and DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav was vocal about the rescue praising the railways and the management.
Kuldeep Yadav Appreciates BCCI's Management
Kuldeep Yadav commended the coordinated efforts, while the BCCI confirmed the suspension and pledged updates on rescheduling. In a video shared by the IPL, Yadav expressed gratitude.
“Team members bohot hai, staff bohot hai, BCCI ke kafi log camera man se leke jitne bhi technical log jude hai isme, pura crew bada tha. Jis tarah se manage kiya woh bohot accha tha. Mai ek baar firse thank you bolna chahta hu BCCI plus Indian Railways ko (There were many team members, staff, BCCI people including cameramen and technical staff—the whole crew was big. The way they managed it was very good. I’d like to thank BCCI and Indian Railways again).”
In another development, the Punjab Kings have also issued a note of thanks appreciating the efforts from the management to ensure the safety of the players amidst the chaos.
Meanwhile, uncertainty lingers over whether PBKS and DC will split points or replay the abandoned fixture, where Punjab had raced to 122/1 before the stoppage.
What Is The Future Of IPL 2025?
The BCCI’s official statement read, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates… will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”
The IPL also acknowledged Indian Railways on social media, “Thank you, @RailMinIndia, for arranging a special Vande Bharat train on such short notice… We deeply appreciate your swift response.”
With updates on the continuation of the league pending, fans will be keen to see an end to the tournament which was led by GT and RCB in the top before the suspension and PBKS and MI following them.
