The Padma Shri stands as one of India’s most prestigious civilian honours, bestowed upon individuals whose contributions have surpassed the ordinary. Ranked as the fourth-highest civilian award in the nation, following the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan, the Padma Shri has also been conferred upon cricketers who have left an indelible mark on the sport and the country alike.

Former all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin became the latest personality from India’s cricketing pantheon to earn the prestigious honour. On the eve of India’s Republic Day on January 25, the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy winning cricketer joined some of the nation’s greatest sportspersons, i.e., mere weeks after announcing his retirement from the international game.

Following Ashwin’s landmark moment in Indian sports, here we take a look at all cricketers who have won the Padmi Shri award since its inception.

Indian cricketers with Padmi Shri awards

While Padmi Shri has been historically granted to Indians who have made significant achievements in the field of arts, education, science, medicine, social service and public affairs; numerous Indian sportspersons have also been conferred with the honour.

Among such elite athletes, several former and active Indian cricketers alike have won the award for their on-field excellence. Following the addition of Ravichandran Ashwin in January 2025, here is a look at all 40 Indian cricketers who have won the Padmi Shri award over the years.
