Australia's former Test captain and keeper-batter Tim Paine has been named as assistant coach of Adelaide Strikers for BBL 13. Paine retired from professional cricket last season and will continue his second innings in cricket as a coach with the Strikers having former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie as their head coach.

Paine, who led Hobart Hurricanes in BBL and features in 44 matches for the club, scored 1,129 runs. The 39-year-old will be involved with Australia 'A' as a part-time coach during their series against New Zealand 'A', having worked with the Under-19 team earlier.

In a statement, Gillespie welcomed Paine into the support staff, who brings a wealth of experience to the setup.

Here's what Gillespie said

"Tim has all the skills to be a fantastic coach. The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play."

Paine led Australia in 23 Tests and played 35, amassing 1,534 runs with nine fifties. The keeper's career ended abruptly after being involved in a sexting scandal, forcing Paine to step down just ahead of The Ashes 2021-2022.

Paine took a break from cricket between 2021 and 2022 and returned to play for Tasmania in First-Class Cricket for the 2022-23 season before announcing retirement. BBL 13 gets underway on December 7, with Adelaide playing their first match against Brisbane Heat on December 9.
