On Wednesday, July 30, the ICC updated their weekly ICC rankings charts. Both England and Indian players benefited in the rankings following the batting prowess shown in the Manchester Test. Players like Rishabh Pant, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Ravindra Jadeja have been rewarded for their stunning performances.
Rishabh Pant's Heroism Gets Rewarded
Joe Root extended his lead as the No.1 ranked Test batter followed his 38th Test century. Also, Rishabh Pant, who batted on just one leg in Manchester, jumped a spot following a fifty to now rank seventh on the rankings.
Notably, Pant suffered a toe fracture on Day 1 of the 4th Test, but still walked to bat for the team. The 27-year-old scored a fifty, which helped him jump ranks on the ranking charts. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal's poor show resulted in the Indian opener slipping three spots to now sit on the 8th place.
With this, Rishabh Pant has become the highest-ranked Indian on the batting charts in Test rankings. Three Indians are in top 10 as Pant is seventh, Jaiswal on eight and Indian skipper Shubman Gill taking the 9th spot.
Abhishek Sharma Becomes The New No.1 In T20Is
In a surprising move, India's Abhishek Sharma has become the new No.1 in T20Is despite India not playing a solitary T20I recently. Notably, Travis Head dropped a spot, which saw Sharma's promotion to the top spot.
The Australia opener didn't feature in the T20Is against West Indies, leading to his demotion. Further, Sharma has become the third-Indian after Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav to become No.1 in T20I rankings.
Ravindra Jadeja Rises To New High
Ravindra Jadeja, who saved the match with a stunning century also moved five places to be ranked 29th on the chart, above KL Rahul, who is ranked 36th. There is no major changes in the bowling department, but Ben Stokes has closed gap on Jaddu in the all-rounder's ranking as the England captain jumped three spots to rank 3rd, only behind Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ravindra Jadeja.
Although, there is a huge gap to fill as Jadeja sits at the top spot comfortably with 422 rating points, while Stokes in on third position with a rating of 301.
Washington Sundar had a great game alongside Jadeja and slammed his maiden Test hundred at Old Trafford. The all-rounder also contributed with the ball and took a couple of wickets. The ICC has awarded the right-handed player with a eight rank jump on the all-rounder's chart and is now ranked joint 13th.
