Dhruv Jurel led a group of several Indian cricketers including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill. In an initiative formulized by the Indian team management, as many as three different groups competed against each other in a fielding competition ahead of India’s ‘Boxing Day’ Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

As it turned out, Dhruv Jurel demonstrated remarkable leadership skills by defeating the other two teams to win a lucrative reward.

Indian fielding coach T Dilip conducted a lively fielding competition between three groups, led by Sarfaraz Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Dhruv Jurel respectively. The group led by Jurel, the youngest cricketer of the three, featured Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar.

Virat Kohli was included in Sarfaraz Khan’s group alongside the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikall; while Indian captain Rohit Sharma belonged in Mohammed Siraj’s team with KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Remarkably, Jurel’s group ended up defeating the other two teams to win a lucrative reward of $300.

The fielding drill constituted a part of India’s preparations ahead of the all-important fourth Test match against Australia at the MCG from December 26 onwards.

Earlier on the tour, Team India won the opening Test at Perth’s Optus Stadium by 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. However, Australia bounced back at the Adelaide Oval with a 10-wicket win. The third Test, played at The Gabba, was largely dominated by the hosts but constant rain interruptions enforced a tame draw.
