KL Rahul, the India cricketer who made his Test debut against Australia on December 26, 2014, has come a long way since his humble beginnings. Known for his versatility and reliability, Rahul is on the brink of achieving something that even the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar can't claim: a hat-trick of Test centuries in Boxing Day Tests.

KL Rahul's Journey At the MCG

The 32-year-old star batter have a bittersweet connection with the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). While he made Test debut there in 2014, it was far from a dream start. He scored just 3 and 1 in his first two innings and Rahul had to leave the field with little to celebrate. However, since then, he has grown into one of most dependable batters for the Indian side and now, he’s poised to achieve something remarkable. Rahul has already scored a century in his last two Boxing Day Tests: 123 runs against South Africa in Centurion in 2021, and 101 runs against the same team in 2023.

If Rahul scores another century in Melbourne on Thursday, he will become the first Indian batter to score three consecutive centuries in Boxing Day Tests—a rare feat that even cricket legends like Kohli and Tendulkar have not achieved.

The Legacy of Virat Kohli And Sachin Tendulkar

While KL Rahul may be about to make history, it is important to acknowledge that the iconic careers of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, two of the finest batters Indian cricket has ever produced. Both have enjoyed stellar careers and have been integral to India's success on the international stage. However, when it comes to Boxing Day Tests, neither Kohli nor Tendulkar has managed to score three consecutive centuries.

KL Rahul’s form in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been exceptional, with 235 runs at an average of 47 and two half-centuries. As he prepares for the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, Rahul has a chance to make history.
