A young South African couple were blessed with a healthy boy at the Bullring, officially known as the Wanderers Stadium, during the hosts’ third ODI match against the visiting Pakistan cricket team on Sunday, December 22.
The news became public after the stadium displayed a congratulatory message for the couple.
On the cricketing front, Pakistan solidified its stance in the third ODI with calculated hitting in the slog overs. Despite losing opening batter Abdullah Shafique for a first-ball duck in the first over of the match to Kagiso Rabada, the visitors amassed over 300 runs in the 47-overs-a-side game.
Young opener Saim Ayub made 101 runs from 94 balls with 13 boundaries and two sixes to top-score for the ‘Men in Green’, while senior men Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan notched up their respective half-centuries.
For South Africa, Rabada and 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka chipped in with crucial wickets, with the latter snaring the prized-scalp of a well-set Babar. Left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin claimed two wickets in the space of two overs to finish his 10-over spell with figures of 2-56.
Earlier in the tour, Rizwan and co. registered wins in each of the first two ODIs to seal the three-match series with a game to spare. Another win over South Africa in the third ODI will give Pakistan a 3-0 sweep and a much-needed boost before the 2025 Champions Trophy in a couple of months’ time.
