The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the IPL 2025 season by a week in light of India’s geo-political and border tensions with Pakistan. With as many as 16 matches still remaining in the tournament, the board will be providing updates regarding new schedule and venues within the coming days.

Amidst ongoing discussions, former England captain and expert commentator Michael Vaughan has now advised the BCCI to host the remainder of IPL 2025 in England instead.

Taking to X shortly after BCCI’s confirmation regarding the suspension of IPL 2025, former England captain Michael Vaughan advised the Indian board to stage the remainder of the season in the United Kingdom (UK). He added that by playing IPL 2025 in England, Indian Test players can also stay back in the country for the impending Test series against the hosts in June.

“I wonder if it’s possible to finish IPL in UK. We have venues and Indian players can stay on for the Test series.”

Apart from India, the BCCI has previously hosted IPL in countries like South Africa and the UAE. While South Africa hosted the entirety of the 2009 edition of the tournament, UAE has hosted multiple IPL seasons, either due to the general elections in India or during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BCCI suspended the IPL 2025 season a day after Punjab Kings’ home fixture against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was halted after just 10 overs of play citing security concerns and floodlight failure.

Notably, shortly after the IPL, the Indian team is scheduled to tour England to play a series of five Tests starting from June 20 onwards in Leeds. The series will also launch India’s WTC 2025-27 cycle.
