Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian cricket team against New Zealand at the iconic Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune in a bid to level the ongoing three-match Test series. Under his leadership, Team India lost the series-opener in Bengaluru by eight wickets last week.

As Sharma’s troops brace themselves for the must-win match, here we take a look at how the legendary Indian opener has himself fared at the Pune-based venue.

Rohit Sharma Test record at the MCA Stadium so far

Rohit Sharma, a veteran of 62 Tests for Team India, has played just one match at the MCA Stadium in Pune so far in his career. The cricketer did so back in October 2019 with a match against South Africa, at a time when the WTC was still in its formative stages.

Opening the innings with Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma scored a sluggish 14 in the match before he was toppled by Kagiso Rabada early in the innings. All in all, Sharma has batted at the venue just once in Tests, as Team India won the October 2019 affair against South Africa by an innings and 137 runs.

Here is a look at a detailed Test record of Rohit Sharma at the MCA Stadium:

As per recent form, Rohit Sharma punched out his 18th Test half-century by whacking a swift 52 against New Zealand in Bengaluru earlier this month. However, the innings was preceded by five successive listless scores against Bangladesh and New Zealand since September.

Overall, Sharma averages a healthy 43.63 in the format, and will be aiming to lead his team by example against New Zealand in the impending must-win match. A win for India will not only level the three-match series, but will also strengthen their claim at the top of the 2023-25 WTC points table before taking flight for Australia.
