In the ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, India skipper Rohit Sharma failed to convert his positive start into a century and returned to the pavilion shortly after his fifty.
On Day 3, India bowled out New Zealand for 402 runs and were trailing by 356 runs. In the 2nd innings, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched a 72-run opening stand before Jaiswal threw his wicket away.
Rohit Sharma Departs In Most Bizarre Manner
Meanwhile, Rohit was going strong and also smashed a fifty that he brought up with a four, six and a four off Matt Henry, who took a five-wicket haul in the first innings. However, shortly after scoring his fifty, Rohit fell prey to Ajaz Patel in a bizarre dismissal.
On the 5th ball of the 22nd over, Sharma defended a fuller-length delivery. However, the hitman was late onto it and as a result, the ball rolled back towards the stumps. Call it brain fade or lack of awareness, but the skipper had enough time to stop the ball from hitting the stumps. However, he was late to react and was disappointed with himself after the wicket.
Rohit Sharma Going Through A Slump
It was important for India to see Rohit stay at the crease and score runs as the hitman was going through a run-slump and also registered a failure with the bat in the first innings. At the time of writing this article, India are 167/2 after 32.1 overs. Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli are going strong and are eyeing their respective fifties.
Talking about the hitman, he has amassed 551 runs in nine matches, which features two centuries that came against England earlier this year.
