Hardik Pandya recently celebrated the second anniversary of India’s high-octane last-ball win over Pakistan from the 2022 T20 World Cup with a sterling social media post. Taking to his Instagram account, the Indian all-rounder shared a picture of himself alongside ‘Player of the Match’ Virat Kohli, as the two middle-order batters stitched a booming 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket in the match.
While Kohli hogged the limelight with a sizzling 82* in an emphatic run-chase, Pandya initiated India’s aggressive onslaught and went on to list 40 handy runs from 37 balls. The senior Indian cricketer also picked up three wickets with the ball, which included the prized scalp of Shadab Khan in the middle overs.
Hardik Pandya remembers 2022 MCG epic vs PAK
Hardik Pandya took to his Instagram story to commemorate the second anniversary of one of India’s greatest-ever victories over arch-rivals Pakistan in a World Cup game. Back on October 23, 2022, during the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Team India chased down Pakistan’s 160 in a topsy-turvy final over.
As it turned out, Pakistan charted a competitive 159-8 from 20 overs despite losing key wickets to Arshdeep Singh (3-32) and Hardik Pandya (3-30). Chasing 160, Team India lost Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel all in quick succession to slip to 31-3 in 6.1 overs.
Thereafter, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya stitched valuable runs together to take India past the 100-run mark without further casualties. Pandya initiated India’s aggression with belligerent sixes off Mohammad Nawaz, until he was toppled by the ‘Men in Green’ spinner in the decisive moments of the match.
With 48 more runs to get from the remaining three overs, Virat Kohli unfurled an innings for the ages to take India home off the final ball. The legendary Indian batter also smacked successive sixes off Haris Rauf in the penultimate over, and the moment has since gone on to become a much-celebrated part of the ICC’s World Cup folklore.
