West Indies (WI) and Australia (AUS) cricket teams will collide in the first Test of their three-match series at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados between Wednesday, June 25 and Sunday, June 29. The action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards on each match day. The series will also constitute a part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for both sides.

West Indies

West Indies stunned Pakistan in Multan earlier this year to level their two-match away series 1-1. The West Indies cricket team also managed to level its last two-match Test series at home, doing so back in November 2024 last year against Bangladesh. In their previous Test dual against Australia, West Indies registered a historic series-levelling eight-run win at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Australia

The Australian cricket team registered four successive Test victories, two each against India and Sri Lanka, to march into the finals of the 2023-25 WTC cycle. However, the Pat Cummins-led defending champions had their winning run hampered by South Africa in the final at Lord’s. Heading into the 2025-27 cycle, the Australians will be aiming to launch a fresh campaign on a positive note.

How Will The Bridgetown Pitch Behave?

Even though the last match played here turned out to be a high-scoring draw, the conditions at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados usually assists fast bowlers, especially during the early phase of a Test. The average first innings total in all Tests played here in the last 10 years has turned out to be 313, comparatively lower than the overall average of 333. The teams batting second have managed to enjoy considerable success at the venue in comparison to the teams batting first.

Players To Watch Out For In WI vs AUS 1st Test

West Indies

Kraigg Brathwaite

Former West Indies captain and Test specialist Kraigg Brathwaite has minted nearly 6,000 runs from 98 matches at an average of 33.15. The right-hander has plundered 12 tons and 31 half-centuries in the process.

Jomel Warrican

West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican played a significant role in helping his team level its previous two-match series in Pakistan earlier this year, picking up 19 wickets in just four innings. Overall, Warrican has collected 73 wickets already in his 19-match career, and the cricketer can pose some serious questions in front of the Australian middle-order.

Shamar Joseph

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph scripted a fightback for the ages with his inspiring match-winning spell against Australia the last time these two nations crossed paths in a Test, doing so back in early-2024. With a penchant of taking key wickets, Joseph has so far nabbed 29 scalps from 15 innings, and will hold a psychological advantage over the Australian batters.

Australia

Mitchell Starc

Australian thunderbolt Mitchell Starc has claimed 34 wickets in his last 10 Tests. The cricketer played a crucial role in taking Australia to the 2025 WTC final, where he picked up a fighting three-fer in the second innings.

Pat Cummins

Australian captain Pat Cummins finished the 2023-25 WTC cycle as its highest wicket-taker with 80 wickets in just 35 innings at an impressive average of 23.48. Cummins even snared his near career-best Test figures of 6-28 earlier this month against South Africa at Lord’s.

Travis Head

Travis Head tallied the highest number of runs among all Australian batters in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India with 448 runs. While his bat went silent in the subsequent series in Sri Lanka and in the 2025 WTC final against South Africa, the firebrand left-hander will be aiming to regain his lost touch with the bat.
