Jadeja getting hate online [Source: @ImTanujSingh/x.com]
For almost 4 days of the Headingley Test match, India was the dominant side as they looked all set for a win at a tricky venue. However, what transpired on the final day surprised many as the England side, led by an inspirational opener in Ben Duckett systematically took apart the Indian attack and helped his team take a lead in the series.
Jadeja's statement comes back to haunt him
The hosts needed 371 runs to win the first Test and Duckett scored a brilliant hundred to seal the win for the team. India also created an unwanted record as for the first time in cricket history, a team lost the match despite having 5 centurions in a Test match.
In the interview, Jadeja was asked on his take on Test captaincy and he responded by saying that captaining in Test is easier since you only have to move one or two fielders. He also insisted that doing captaincy in white-ball is more difficult.
However, Shubman Gill failed as a leader in his first Test and Kohli fans have hit back at Jadeja by criticising his statement. Many Kohli fans felt that the all-rounder disrespected Kohli and his leadership.
How Gill's captaincy led to India's loss?
England needed 371 runs to win and Gill was a bit defensive in his first stint as the captain. The field placements were not spot on and he allowed the English batters to sneak in runs easily by spreading the field.
Plus, his bowling rotation was also not up to the mark as Jasprit Bumrah, their main bowler wasn't utilized properly. On the contrary, fans feel that if Kohli was there in place of Gill, he would have been more aggressive and in your face. The former captain would have rotated the bowlers better and India might have won the match.
