The Champions Trophy 2025 fever is at an all-time high, but at the same time, fans are also waiting for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to start. The cash-rich league will commence from March 22 and will run for two months as ten strong teams will fight it out for the coveted title.

When the IPL auctions took place, eyebrows were raised when none of the teams bid for the aggressive English opener, Ben Duckett and he went unsold. However, there are several IPL teams, who desperately need a quality opener as they are dealing with injury issues.

There is still time left for the teams to make changes and here are 3 teams who can target Ben Duckett as injury replacements.

1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Why Duckett is an ideal fit for RCB

  • RCB are dealing with the injury of Jacob Bethell and if he gets ruled out of IPL, they would need to find his replacements. The team management can sprung a surprise if they replace Bethell with another Englishman - Ben Duckett.
  • Duckett can open alongside his English mate, Phil Salt and both the players share a great camaraderie as they open for England in ODIs and T20Is. In this case, Virat Kohli, who has the experience of playing in at number 3 can demote himself and it'll allow the partnership of Duckett-Salt to flourish.

2) Rajasthan Royals

Injury replacement for Samson?

  • Sanju Samson suffered a fracture to his index finger during the T20I series Vs England and underwent a surgery to heal it. Currently there is no timeline for his return to cricket and in case the RR skipper misses the IPL 2025 season, Ben Duckett could be a solid opening partner for Yashasvi Jaiswal.
  • He can form a deadly partnership with Jaiswal as both the batters believe in an aggressive brand of cricket and are fearless in their approach, something which could benefit them.

3) Lucknow Super Giants

The team doesn't have designated openers

Players
Preferred batting slot
Rishabh PantNumber 4
Nicholas PooranNumber 3/4
David MillerNumber 5/6
Ayush BadoniNumber 5/6
Aiden MarkramNumber 3/4
  • The Lucknow Super Giants team is likely to miss Mitch Marsh due to an injury and he was likely to open for them in the upcoming season.
  • However, if he is gone, there is no designated opener in the team. As the table suggests, none of their batters prefer the opening spot and usually bat at number 4 or 5. LSG if they smartly decide could replace Marsh with Duckett and they'll get an aggressive opener who can give flying starts at the Ekana Stadium, a venue known for its sluggishness.
